The average price of Vietnam’s tra fish (pangasius) exported to the US increased sharply in the first quarter of this year 2022 to the highest ever level of 4.5 USD per kilogramme, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

1. Big exporter pangasius in Vietnam

The top five largest pangasius export enterprises, including Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company, East Sea Company Seafood, Nam Viet, IDI Corp and Van Duc Seafood Processing Co., Ltd., contributed total sales accounting for 37% of the total export value of pangasius in eight months this year.

A good signal for Vietnamese pangasius exporting enterprises, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) has issued a final conclusion regarding the period from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021 for Vietnamese pangasius. Accordingly, the DOC has kept the anti-dumping tax applied to each company based on the results of the last reviews. Therefore, this decision does not affect the exports of pangasius to the US in the future.

Currently, most pangasius processing enterprises for export in Tien Giang province are active in farming areas, so they must ensure enough input materials and limit purchasing from outsiders, so they can reduce production costs and make profits.

In addition to traditional pangasius fillet products, some businesses also process products from pangasius such as: tra fish balls, fish cakes… to serve the domestic market and export with high value. According to businesses, the demand for seafood from foreign partners is very high, especially pangasius fillet is very attractive.
