EXPORT FROM HAIPHONG AND HOCHIMINH BY FCL, WHICH DOMESTICS FEES NEED TO CONSIDER?
Vietnam is one of the countries with a huge amount of exports cargo every year with many routes to many countries around the world, including the US, EU, UK,…with a shipment from Vietnam, Shipping cost is one of the issues to consider. Depend on term of the shipment=> seller or buyer must to identify which fee in Vietnam side they need to pay. So, what are the basic fees for a FCL shipment from Vietnam? Below is list of basic domestic fees for a general shipment exported from Vietnam at Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh port.
FCL shipment mean that customer’s cargo will use the whole of container, no need to share container with other seller. The seller takes empty container, load their own cargo and close seal, drop into CY yard. In this article, Scope of fee that mentioned will be calculated from the cargo ready at factory until it drop off CY yard and waiting for loading to vessel.
- Loading cargo from warehouse to container
For general cargo, this fee is labor fee at house. However, for special cargo, such as oversize, bulk, RORO ,… that require to use special tool to lift on the container.in this case, we need to hire specialized vehicles to handle it.
- Trucking fee
Trucking fee is one of the fee that need to considered when estimating the costs. This fee will not only depend on the type of container, Gross Weight but also on the distance between the 2 locations, the location of the factory (in the prohibited area, or the blockade area in the current covid-19 situation). In addition, due to the fact that the influence of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the cost of fuel increase sharply made trucking fee also increase significantly.

- Lift on- off
This is a port charge for containers that might be added by the port. This can happen in the case, where the containers have already been handled in the port. This fee will be collected by the terminal, so each terminal will have a different tariff. However, the tariff among terminals is not much different. Currently, the lift on and off fee will fluctuate around 65$ -75$ for 20GP and 80$ -90$ for 40GP, exclude taxes
- Infrastructure fee
In the pass, this fee applied only for Haiphong port, with the tariff 12$ for container 20 and 25$ for container 40GP/ HQ. but from 1- April -2022, Hochiminh city apply this fee also. Base on the type of good, the tariff is different.
A fee collection software through the 24/7 system of Ho Chi Minh City Customs has been completed, allowing port business units to check and supervise the payment of charges
- Customs fee
SMG provides customs declarations service, open customs declaration sheet, Customs clearance and supervising. Depending on the type of commodity, HS code, the area where the declaration is opened, the customs price will be different. For normal goods, the customs fee that SMG is providing is $50. This fee excludes for inspection.
- Demurrage and detention fee
DEM (demurrage charge) is a container storage charge at a port collected by a shipping company. The essence of DEM is that the port will charge shipping lines. After that, the shipping company will collect from customers and close to the port according to a separate agreement. DEM fee is charged per container unit.
DET (detention charge) is the charge to store containers at a warehouse built for shipping lines. Similar to DEM fees, DET fees also have a policy of free container storage for a period of time (or days). DET fee is calculated by day and depends on the type and size of the container.
Normally, shipping lines will allow a number of days for free dem and det. And, when this number of days is exceeded, we will be charged by carrier. These fee will be determined by the shipping line, and divided into different level as the number of day increases.

- Local charge at port
Last but not least, local charge can be seen the most fee that we need to know. These fee are collected by carrier, In general, shipping lines these fees will be quoted along with the freight. These local fees will vary between different routes. For example, with a shipment from Haiphong to the US, the local fee will usually include the following fees:
